    Fuel starvation

Had an incident last weekend where a carb or carbs were starved of fuel and then car suddenly picked up and and has been fine since. Just left a show and car was going like a rocket suddenly at a steady 50mph started running flat and sounded like it’s on one carb and then engine died. Left it for a couple of minutes and was fine for a short distance and then died again.
I initially thought it was a damper sticking but a tap of hammer made no difference.
let car cool for 15 mins and drove perfectly and then steady 30mph started again playing up. 6 stops on way home and car seems fine.
My thoughts are either fuel pump being hot and playing up or float cup off starving a carb of fuel.
There’s never a lot if fuel in the filter and t was very hot.
Just got home and pump feels very hot and so do we both LOL
Before ordering more parts would you agree best bet is a new pump and a couple of Viton cut off valves?
    Cheers

Sounds like pump to me Andrew. Valves tend to stick open not closed unless the float suddenly weighs far more than it should ie is full of petrol. Try taking the feed pipe off and check the pump delivers properly. I had an incident that was similar, turned out the wiring to the pump was failing giving intermittent pump power

      Cheers Paul, makes sense
      Only plays up when hot
I'm using Stag next Sunday for a 300 mile round trip so need to ensure problem sorted.
Doesnt help when work gets in the way
Other than that cars goes very well and only plays up when hot
      Thanks

Cleaning the inertia cut off switch might be a good idea.

& the rusty ball is not the issue. Clean it if you wish.
the brass ring & copper strip tips are what needs cleaning.
Recently had to check an inertia switch… apparently recently checked …. Contacts were still showing plenty of oxidation … ball was shiny!
eliminate the inertia switch by bypassing.
