I've been quite vocal on here today, when I should have been working on the stag! It all started with good intentions, up early, go for it and fit the stainless exhaust! With the exception of one of the rear wheel arch sections it fitted perfectly, and with a bit of fettling that fitted as well, done, all in 2 1/2 hours.
To good to be true, yep!
You see I thought I'd extend the st.st. theme to the fixing clamps as well and bought a deluxe fixing kit from JP.
Having followed the advice of a previous thread, the full installation was carried out with everything loose, now came the moment when I made the decision that things could be tightened up. The first clamp behind the o/d unit bracket was tightened; those of you who've done the job will know that when the clamp's inner shoulders met and the clamp still hadn't tightened on to the pipe, will know that something is wrong.
The rest of the day has been spent sending 2 emails and making numerous phone calls to JP trying to get to the bottom of the problem, so far I've not received any email reply and my calls have only gone through to an answering machine. On top of that, to attempt to modify the clamps means they have to be removed, to do that means that the entire exhaust system, with the exception of the down pipes, has to be dismantled, and once a solution is found, reassembled all over again. Great, those tail pipe rubbers are b' to get on and off, although I'm sure the practise will come in handy.
I've increased the gap between a clamps shoulder by 5mm and even then the clamp only just nips. The clamps as supplied have an i/d of 46.1mm and a shoulder gap of 5.5mm the exhaust female joint section has a dia of 43.5mm. Anyone out there have some clamp info?
John
