    Stainless exhaust

I've been quite vocal on here today, when I should have been working on the stag! It all started with good intentions, up early, go for it and fit the stainless exhaust! With the exception of one of the rear wheel arch sections it fitted perfectly, and with a bit of fettling that fitted as well, done, all in 2 1/2 hours.
To good to be true, yep!
You see I thought I'd extend the st.st. theme to the fixing clamps as well and bought a deluxe fixing kit from JP.
Having followed the advice of a previous thread, the full installation was carried out with everything loose, now came the moment when I made the decision that things could be tightened up. The first clamp behind the o/d unit bracket was tightened; those of you who've done the job will know that when the clamp's inner shoulders met and the clamp still hadn't tightened on to the pipe, will know that something is wrong.
The rest of the day has been spent sending 2 emails and making numerous phone calls to JP trying to get to the bottom of the problem, so far I've not received any email reply and my calls have only gone through to an answering machine. On top of that, to attempt to modify the clamps means they have to be removed, to do that means that the entire exhaust system, with the exception of the down pipes, has to be dismantled, and once a solution is found, reassembled all over again. Great, those tail pipe rubbers are b' to get on and off, although I'm sure the practise will come in handy.
I've increased the gap between a clamps shoulder by 5mm and even then the clamp only just nips. The clamps as supplied have an i/d of 46.1mm and a shoulder gap of 5.5mm the exhaust female joint section has a dia of 43.5mm. Anyone out there have some clamp info?

Picture shows the modified clamp tightened to limit of shoulder and another clamp as supplied.

Did you call them after noon? Paddocks are not open on a Saturday afternoon which is probably why you did not get an answer.

I used 45mm clamps on my system with no issues if that helps.

            Cheers Steve

When I refited my stainless system I made up formers for the bore and the outside dia this acted like a swaging tool to bring back the pipe to size and get a better fit. I have the option to do this at work but your local exhaust manifold shop can do this. I spent a few days getting the pipes to fit right after some moron had used U clamps to crush the crap out of the pipe. I ended up going with the same type clamps as you have and using one set as a hanger and one for a clamp at the back where the pipes GEX 1434 and GEX 1435 attach to the muffler. This way gives you more adjustment on the pipe fit up and you can position the clamp on the system better.

Their answering machine just reported that all thier sales team are busy please call back later! If they were closed then another message would have been more appropriate.

                  Update.
Graham at JP has got it sorted.

Their last batch of st.st. clamps were made out of spec, I bought mine the end of last Nov. just after they restocked. There was a crossover of stock, so some might be good some might be bad, so any one here who's bought some since and not fitted them might like to check the dimensions against my earlier thread.

It now means however that JP has no available stock! They are sorcing replacements for me from alternative suppliers. So a result for me at least.
