The Worlds Best Kept Auto Secret

The Worlds Best Kept Auto Secret

I have been driving (legally) for over 35 years. One would think I would have noticed the little secret on my dash that was staring me right in the face the whole time. Well, I didn't,and I bet you probably haven't either.

Quick question, what side of your car is your gas tankfiller cap?If you are anything like me, you probably can't remember right away. My solution is to uncomfortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look. If you don't do this in your own car you more than likely have done it in a borrowed or rental car.
Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the gas station, or put your neck at risk of discomfort or injury.
If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump. The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank
filler pipe is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your filler pipe is on the right, the handle will be on the right (see photo above). It is that simple!
I don't know how you feel about this discovery right now, but when I found out this morning
    , I felt pretty damncheated!
Why don't the dealers share such important information with car buyers? I don't understand why this isn't in the driver’s/owner’s manual? And why don’t our favorite mechanics think of mentioning this to us all? The only possible explanation can be that all these people probably don't even know themselves!
Go out and share the world’s best kept auto secret with your friends … this is information is way too important to be kept secret.

Fords have a little arrow pointing to the side that has the filler. Which side should the handle be on an old Daimler ? ( Two filler caps, one each side! )

You do realise that now there's going to be a sad bunch of muppets checking the fuel gauge of every car we sit in? Great find but I just know it's going to be like one of those tunes that gets into your head and won't go away.

Sorry bud - you'll have to amaze us another way

I usually pull up at the first available pump and pull the hose over necessary. I think we are looking at a problem that isn't there

ABSOLUTELY! But you have to consider that I parked next the correct pump on the correct side because I have had the car for 7 years - not because I deliberately did according to the duff info we've been given - I just thought about it as I pulled the flap handle..

Renault Safrane - pumpnozzle comes out on right, filler cap on right.

Jeep Cherokee KJ - pump nozzle on right, arrow pointing to left, filler cap on left.

Triumph Sprint ST 1050 - pump nozzle on right, filler cap in centre.

Sounds like so much baloney to me.

or maybe another word beginning with B......

I have to admit I would like to to make a discovery that would impress others, but I feel the only impression I'll leave on the world is a dent where my nose hits the ground....
