    Clutch master cylinder

    I have been having unbelievable trouble with the clutch hydraulics on my 1975 Stag. I have replaced the slave cylinder three times and the master cylinder twice. By fitting a repair kit to the (new) slave cylinder I have got it to stop leaking but I have had no such luck with the master cylinder. I sent the first replacement back and got the current one in exchange but it still leaked. Can anyone please advise me of a supplier who will supply a reliable master cylinder? Mine were from a hydraulics specialist supplier rather than one of the usual Stag suppliers. It has a shiny case rather than the "casting" look that some have. I can't send the replacement cylinder back now because I have fitted a refurb kit to it.


    I cannot believe that something so straightforward would cause so many problems

    Wonder if its a slow moving item that has sat on their shelf for years rather than from a Stag specialist with a greater turnover?

      Good point! I would just like a recommendation from someone who has bought one that actually works. The car isn't moving at all at the moment

        I bought a master cylinder from James Paddock 2 years back. They all seem to be the same . i have no issues.

            Ask here first, to save the pain….. most of us have that tee shirt.
            Had one of each from robsport that was ok.
            Peters stuff is most trusted.
            CBC Quinton Birmingham also offer resleeving services for stag hydraulics.

              Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will go for the LD Parts one. A bit of a faff having to send the old one back but nowhere near as much as keep replacing leaking ones!

                I know how you feel same problem with my steering rack. Unbelievable rubbish service from some suppliers

                  I couldn't believe it when the level in the reservoir started to drop yet again. By contrast the diff I got from TD Fitchett just worked. Ah well, here we go again!!!

                    I didn’t have originals to re sleeve, the Rimmer (TRW?) brake and clutch masters have been fine.

                      Well, despite having asked for and got advice I have actually gone for one from TD Fitchett . It just saves having to send the old one off, and they were good with the diff. Fingers, toes and everything else crossed! The firm who supplied the two leaky ones have agreed to a refund. They didn't ask for the second one back so I now have two spare leaky ones!!
