I had been struggling with getting my car running well - a few sessions trying to adjust the carbs using the ROM had gotten me nowhere, so I just had it into a shop which specialises in fuel systems, to whom I was referred by the firm who rebuilt the engine. Picked it up a couple of days ago and it now starts and runs better, and feels much more peppy. So here's something - the guy told me he had it on the dyno and saw that it lost 10kw when he put the air cleaner back on. Backtracking, he noticed the plates obscuring the air intakes so removed them and got the 10kw back! dataurl094221.png dataurl094224.png

Interesting - all the posts I've seen on this subject is that they improve the overall running of the engine, even though that sounded counter-intuitive. Something to do with "beneficial" turbulence IIRC.
I'm also aware that the myth about water spinning the other way round in the Southern hemisphere has been debunked, so we can't look to that for reasonsWhite 1976 build ("Mk2") only a few mods
