Diagnosis on overheating- ideas please

There are some specific things to deal with when fitting a Stag water pump - not least checking the clearance between the top of the impeller securing bolt head (and the washer under the bolt must be fitted) and the underside of the pump (see ROM - 10 thou to 25 thou is the distance to shoot for, adjusted by varying pump cover gasket thicknesses) and refitting the inlet manifold has its issues, too.
You need to ensure your garage is knowledgeable about these - possibly printing out the relevant pages from the ROM and giving them to them might be an idea?

I have to admit, giving my own Stag to a general motor mechanic, no matter how good, for this work would cause me unease.

Thanks gents. Yes, Wilf, I know what you mean but I trust these guys and am not convinced with the others local to me. Plus the cost of getting the car to anywhere more than a mile away isn't far off the cost of the pump, so I might as well give them a try. I have the ROM though, so will do as you suggest.

Mention to them things that they will not know about. For example there are2 types of pump (6 & 12 vane) and have to have the correct cover as well. Also the gapping procedure in the manual (ROM) using a feeler gauge.

And if they are taking the impellor off its lefty tighty, righty loosey (I know its in the ROM.....)
