I thought they were fantastic on the Rover P6 V8s I had (they suffered chronically from vapour locks in the fuel line in hot weather/traffic) - similar carb set-up (SUs instead of Strommies but much of a muchness) and found them very reliable....

      Hi Steve

A few years ago my Stag was suffering from fuel starvation and ground to a halt after about 4 miles. I checked out fuel breathers etc and they did not seem to be the cause. I spoke to a local carburettor dealer about a different pump and they advised me to fit a Facet as they use one on their race car and never had a problem. I took their advice and fitted the pump. What they didn't tell me was that the pump works continuously not like the S.U. and was really noisy. I then fitted a pressure regulator in the fuel line to save over pressurising the system and lagged the pump with foam pipe lagging to try to silence the noise, all to no avail. The pump worked O.K. but even when you stopped at traffic lights people looked as it sounded like there was an animal in the boot scratching trying to get out. In the end I took it out and bought another S.U. pump, the problem with fuel starvation disappeared with both pumps, but I was glad to get rid of the Facet-purely through noise.

          Steve,

I changed mine last year with an SU. If you're thinking of changing you can have a look at mine next weekend. I've still got the box with the model numbers etc.

As Bob said, Ifitted one in my stag and it was very noisy. I had a pressure reg fitted in line aswell to bring the pressure down a bit.It packed up when it was a few years old and left me at the side of the road. Luckily I was only a mile from home so I walked back and got the old SU pump which I had repaired, fitted it there and then and it's been working fine ever since. That must have been 10 years ago now. There is a bosch type fuel pump availablesimilar to the conversion for PI Tr's but working at carb pressure. (2-3 psi instead of 110!!) has anyone ever seen/fitted one of these?

SU pump everytime as already said Facet pump is very noisyas it works flat out all the time:shock: i also fitted one to my P6B but soon binned it and fitted an SU type If you do go for an SU type you can replace the points inside for an electronic upgrade but personally i think the SU pump is very reliable as it isjust keep the points clean and pipless

              Cheers,

              Chas

I've just been looking at this,

                  http://www.holley.com/data/Products/...199R8108-2.pdf

and it made me think of the facet fuel pump discussion on this thread.

The Holley bible says fuel pressure for the 390 cfm should be 5-7.5 psi. This is well above the 2.7lbs delivered by the humble SU pump.

Does this mean that everyone running a holley should have a higherpressure fuel pump and possibly a pressure regulator???

Passed the MOT today, well chuffed to be back on the road for the first time in years. I need to reset the float heights though, after fitting the 7 degree adaptor plate the secondary jets are flooding the thing at tickover. Fuel is pouring into the manifold with the engine not running when the ignition is on. Either that or the needles are stuck down. I think I'll go and do it now.

It's so ungrateful, all that time I spent crawling around underneath it and this is how it repays me. At least it behaved itself during the test and passed with flying colours, not like last time when it conked half way through. The culprit was a loose LT coil connection, it did the same thing on Bodmin moor in '99. Should have spotted it.

                  Dribble, dribble.... Nurse!!!
