    OPENING BOOT LID

    Morning ,

Took the stag out yesterday for the first run of the year, Only thing that went wrong was the boot lid kept opening. You could slam it shut and try it , wouldn't open, then within a few miles someone would come up beside you at the traffic lights and shout 'your boots open' not fully open but just flaping around.

Anyone got a cure for this , what do I need to do????

When mine did this i fixed it with some trial and error adjustment of the boot catch plate. Has been fine for the last 2 years

Mine started opening again lately having worked correctly for quite a few years.

I can only put it down to too much wd40.

So cleaned and dried it all with brake cleaner.

Still opens so I'll try to improve it by adjustment.

      The catches do wear though.

        Hi

        Really agree with Andy here.

My boot lid would always be found to have opened up after every little trip out bumpy road or not. I had fitted a new boot seal and was a good slam to get it to shut in the first place, but after some trial and error adjusting the position of the catch plate cured the problem. Think the latch was not fully engaging on the plate.

          Thanks lads,

I fitted a new boot seal so it's more than likley that has upset things, so trail and error it is then, thought I might have been missing something.

Many years ago when I had a 2500S estate the tail gate kept opening as I was driving along. The solution that I used for at least six months was two wooden wedges and a mallet - mind you the car only cost £150 in the first place

while we are on boot seals - i'm wondering if my car has the right one ? no problems with it popping open, but when closed it is too high (proud of the wings) - and ideas - is it the seal (which looks newish, but I didn't fit it) or is it adjustment???

I think some of the seals are too thick - my new one is - have to slam it to shut it and it sticks up a bit - thinking of getting this now
