Outdoor Cover for Stag

Hi Mike, I really don't like outdoor covers, they are a nightmare for paint. I have had my TVR Chimaera outside for a year now with just a cover over the roof area. It is dry inside and the paint hasn't been touched. That might be a better idea than a full outdoor cover. Alternatively, if you can stretch to a Carcoon style thing, they seen excellent but are around £500. Machine Mart do a garage that starts from about £350 which might also work if you have room. https://www.machinemart.co.uk/c/shed...E&gclsrc=aw.ds
Sorry I haven't given you any clarity but I would try to avoid an outdoor full cover.

Outdoor covers seem a fabulous idea, breathable, waterproof are regular promises that I read.
Condensation gets trapped. The wind moves rhe fabric around and in my own personal experiences paint gets damaged.
I had a dancover portable garage that survived 3 years of North Devon storms before i gifted it to Paul. It lasted another storm but then just fell apart.
However up until that point it was damned good, and I am sure if installed in a more sheltered location would have lasted longerStags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony

Anything that touches your Stag will rub on it...never seen an outside cover that doesn't. The close fitting covers are worse, they are supposed to breathe but trap moisture close to the paint surface and over time...cause micro blistering. I kept my Stag in a garage with a Carcoon around it over 7 years and no damage and no rust, there are a regular availability of exterior Carcoons which are 2 thicknesses on e bay, from owners who change cars or sell them...one here on the bay now, correct size 3 for a Stag, check the dimensions given...255715804628 item number, bidding at £400. Your choice.

Started with an outdoor cover and paid a lot for what it was supposed to be/do, I returned the first one and they replaced it no problem, fair enough, but then had the same issue, that being the seals inside came away. I also noticed the paint bubbling (cannot say for certain it was the cover but there was moisture on the car) and paint did appear in places on the cover (so it must of been rubbing), personally I'm now definitely no fan of outdoor covers. I wouldn't even give the cover away tbh.
My next step was to buy a Clarkes instant garage, it was easy to put up (and will be to take down if I want to move it), so happy with that. Then after having the car bare metal resprayed amongst a lot of other things (which I intended to do anyway) my thoughts turned to rodent activity and ended up buying a carcoon. The carcoon when inflated just about fits in the garage, so delighted about that.
For me I'm totally satisfied with my situation now.
One downside to the carcoon is that it's a bit of a faff putting up and down but when the car goes away for a period of time it's ok, otherwise I just leave the carcoon base on the garage floor if the intention is to use the car on a more regular basis. It probably appears that I've over done it but its more like I've ended up here because I've paid to find out, so garage works for the short term and carcoon, longer term.
Before buying the carcoon I looked some utube videos, so do that as some research.
Bottom line, totally happy with the carcoon and if I was starting again I'd get the garage and carcoon.
Just add I've no connection whatsoever with any of these companies.
I hope my experience helps.

Must add as appreciate everyone's circumstances are different.
I didn't have a garage but did have hardstanding, when I put the garage up I added additional anchor points with cam straps just to be on the safe side, apparently the carcoon will withstand a strong storm but for me as it's inside the garage I'm not so worried.
I hope I'm not boring everyone...

This is the exterior Carcoon advertised under item number 255715804628 the silver covering is UV control as against an indoor Carcoon which is a clear bubble, there are 3 photos and it will fit into a box similar to the sizes I suggested above, compare it against the new price and decide what you want to go to.

I don't know how to break it to you but £500 broken down into the life of the Carcoon (7-8 years ?) maybe more ( make sure it's well strapped down) works out at about £62 per year for dry storage that you can take down whenever you want and store it. I don't know how to get cheaper non damaging storage than that. Maybe a tie on cover will allow you an extra 12 months to save the monies for a Carcoon but you WILL likely pick up some superficial damage on the outside whilst doing it.

I totally agree with Micky, it will rub on the paintwork. I got this in the end. Bolted it down......I have part concreted my garden so its very stable. It survived the Storm we had rcently. Only problem you get is condensation inside. I have to make sure I have some form of heating on all the time...does not have to be much.
I have now made a canopy to park the Stag under inside the ' tent ' or canvas garage , what ever its called. Serves its purpose, lasted me 6 years already, still going strong. Very cheap.
Have used it as a workshop, spent all winter doing the Stag had a gas heater on and bought in leccy via proper cabling. Well worth the money.

These are the jobbies that I have used in the past
Portable garage medium. Large selection af portable garages for sale. Portable garages and storage tents for storing cars, tools or machines. Affordable portable garages in many sizes. Buy your portable garage today!
It might not be a practical solution but I used a polytunnel to store 4 Range Rovers inside, even in winter it was warmer inside than outside. Never had a condensation issue with that
Here are the machine mart offerings;
Incidentally, machinemart catalogues are just small enough to fit into a postbox, thus you can wrap one and send it to someone who might have annoyed you, best leave the stamps off the outside so they have to pay postage and also the handling fee. #VictorMeldrewStags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony

One of the best that ive had, that lasted the gales and didnt move, was a Halford one. It stayed dry didnt damage the paint and was reasonably priced. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/ca...-l-268814.html
