    Rear brakes check

Am I right in putting the spring which hooks onto the adjuster at the rear of the shoes? I've lashed it up pre fitting as its more get-at-able. Wasn't like this when I disassembled the car but the Triumph parts catalogue appears to show it thus.

Gratefuel for the input of those who've been here before!! This is the LH side brake.

I can't make out clearly from the photo, but the top spring should be fitted from the back

It should be behind, however… on front clears & works Afaiaa.

Top spring should be behind the shoes.

Thanks Sujit. The top spring is as I found it, i.e. apparently incorrectly fitted at the front of the shoes, not behind. Will change.

Because it fits & clears at the front, I can’t see it makes much difference.
possibly easier to fit the shoe retaining spring with the spring fitted to the rear?

            Just my 2p

sucessfully fitted to the front very recently.

Thanks guys. Will proceed as I have it set up when I reassemble.

Hopefully the last query before I screw the back end together again. When I disassembled it there was no diff mounting pin upper washer - 153421. Listed by Rimmers as NLA. I could fab one up myself but does anyone know what the thickness is? The car drove fine without, but whilst I'm in there..............

I think that washer is actually welded inside the box section, there is no loose washer above the rubber bushing.

Thanks Terry. Bears out what it was like when I got the car. Trouble is you don't know what level of competence the last person working on the car had!! Hence my latest post regarding ATF.

The lower springs are the wrong way round, the one that attaches to the handbrake lever should sit happily below the other, and just in front of the handbrake lever, rather than on top of it.

And yes, the top spring should be behind, to pull the shoes back when brake applied, not forward towards the drum.

Watch my video, at the end I show how to put the top spring on...

                      Hope that helps!

Many thanks Chix. Good vid. All sorted now thanks to earlier advice and a more thorough reading of the ROM. I was able to complete the rears off the car as I have everything aft of the transmission in bits. Transmission out next for the front and rear seals. Oh joy...........
