    Thanks Terry it's getting clearer.

    So it would be better to have the last fill E10 not E5. This would save a bit of money, and as you say, probably run some E10 through the system on first startup after hibernation would be a good idea.

      Given a choice I would think most would prefer E5 or non ethanol to store but yes a tank of e10 will clear any moisture out, but you need to use it up, not let it sit there..

        I do have an Ally tank though, but I will do a full drain including the carb.

              Unless you have other reasons to drain down seems a lot of work for such a short period.. many (most?) lay up with full tanks for longer than that, my MGB has done up to 5 months a few times. Also with full tank you do have the opportunity to take it for a run should there be a short break in the weather.

                Thanks for the advice Terry. I must admit I have ordered some fuel additive so plan to try some different options to see what happens, but for the moment need to get the car starting normally before putting her to bed.

                  Hi Tommy et al,
                  Would you believe it!!, but I have only gone and found a fix for my Weber idling issue
                  Once the engine warms up, it just starts running roughly and I could not put the choke in without it stalling. It just did not want to run without choke.
                  I tried/checked everything I could think, ignition, air leaks, float level, carb/manifold gaskets, but found nothing wrong.
                  I had 052 idle jets fitted.
                  I have now fitted a 065 idle jet to the Nearside barrel and the car now idles like a dream and the choke can be closed quite soon after starting, as you would expect with a Weber.
                  I ordered the wrong size jet for the Offside barrel, as this is a bigger diameter than the Nearside jet, so I expect I will end up with 2x 060 idle jets.
                  It runs sweetly with both idle screws out by 1.5 turns (default setting), but I will obtain another jet before trying to tune properly.

                    Good news Den. Seems like you’ve been through a lot of pain to find a fundamental problem. You may find that performance / consumption may change, I was advised by Webcon that the idling circuit is operative up to 3000rpm.

                      Good result Den. Glad that you are making progress. The idle jet also meters fuel in, what is called the progression phase where the fuel begins to issue from the little holes just above the throttle plate. Increasing the idle jet size will make more fuel issue from those holes, resulting in a richer mixture in that phase regardless of the idle screw setting.

                      I suspect that some small particle got lodged in nearside idle jet, and if you can clear that perhaps your idle will work well and your mixture should then be just right?
