    Triumph Stag Hazard flashers

    Hi everyone.

We're new to Triumph Stag ownership and just have a quick question if anyone can help.

Our car is a 1974 model but it looks like the dashboard has been changed to a Mark 1 at some point. The only problem is that it doesn't have hazard flashers, which we believe a car of this year should have.

Did the early Mark 1's not have hazard flashers? ... as there doesn't seem to be any holes in the dashboard to allow for this. Looking at the Rimmers catalogue, they show two different hazard flasher switches; one round and one rectangular. If the car was fitted with hazard flashers, would the switches be in the main instrument panel?

We would be grateful for any help.

    Many thanks
    Garry

Hi, I think it was 1986 when it became law for all cars to have hazard flashers. If your car was fitted with them prior to this then they must also work otherwise it is an MOT failure.
My 1973 stag I got earlier this year did not have hazard lights and I got it to pass an MOT. However I do not want to think of the consequences of breaking down and not having hazards, especially if on a smart motorway or any road come to think of it.
So I bought a round one as that seems to be what most Stags I have seen fitted with. It was easy to wire into the existing wiring and I have sited it in the dash dimmer knob hole which looks fine. The dash dimmer is no longer used in my car since I have changed the instrument lights to leds.

Hazard flashers came in with LD30001 in late 73, when the pull-switch was fitted in the driver instrument panel between and below the speedometer and tachometer. Before then, no hazard flashers.

It is fairly straightforward to retrofit hazard flashers and kits are available from various suppliers.

You might want to look at the rest of the car out and check if it really is a Mk 1 or 2. Lots of dodgy cars and vin numbers out there....

I have an early-ish Mk1 (LD2060) with most things original and there is no hole in the dash for a flasher.
One of the many previous owners installed a round pull switch Lucas version in a triangular type bracket under the crash pad, just to the right of the steering column.
The unit contains the flasher relay and piggy backs into the indicator wiring multi-plug.

If you already have the wiring somewhere perhaps a simple switch will bring it all back.
