That bracket often squashes the front rubber seal and leaves a dent there. I remove them (but note that pointy levers can then mark the tonneau cover).

Many cars seem to be missing this part.
imho this plate is useful… it compresses the hood into the stowage area & allows tonneau to store / close.
It can damage the front seal though…an additional thin sponge strip added will prevent damage….
Seems as if many trimmers have deleted it or even retained it fitted 180 degrees… no clue why it’s there possibly.
Mine was missing when I bought my Stag, so didn’t realise until Tony Hart pointed it out as the cause of my hood fabric rubbing & starting to fray. He fitted a spare that he had, which stopped any further wear. The original isn’t very robust, & is prone to getting bent, so I had a work colleague make a copy out of heavier gauge stainless, and it’s been fine ever since!
