          Sorry if this isn’t required….
The PRV is fitted to stop the oil pressure being too high…. Especially when cold or at high engine speed.

Sometimes owners seek to adjust the PRV to increase low engine speed oil pressure.

          Thats not a good idea:-

          1. the low speed low pressure is usually caused by crank bearing wear, very occasionally a worn pump. Very very rarely another internal oil flow escape e.g. gross leak from a tensioner.

          2. damage can occur to the cam drive / jackshaft drive if the oil pressure is too high, on a tv8. Can be involved & expensive to repair.

apologies if this was an egg sucking lesson.

Hello jbuckl, I have read of some mods using a washer, different springs, etc. I have returned to a standard spring from LD parts and removed the washer that was under the split pin, given everything a clean, measured tolerances and put back together. Will see whats what when I finally turn the key (god knows when that will be)

What is the technique of getting that spring out if engine is in the car ? Couldn’t get mine out when I tried , regards Graham

You could try disconnecting the HT king lead to prevent the engine starting, then remove the PRV split pin and spin the engine over on the starter motor. Oil pressure should pop it out. Helps to have someone under the car with a bucket to catch any oil and to let you know if/when it has come out.

I used a magnet on the end of the plug, the type you get on an extendable aerial like pole, takes a couple of pulls but works ok

I was messing with a TR7 engine trying to diagnose a bloody awful tapping noise. I had the timing cover off and asked the customer to start it up. He had a habit of occasionally using quite a lot of throttle when flicking the starter. Imagine the thick stripe of engine oil across my face, the engine bay and the ceiling.

Magnet is a lot less messy to remove the bits, like Mike suggested.

Also less chance of the workshop pixie grabbing the spring and relocating it to the furthest point of the workshop.

When you have got it out, weld half a washer to it, as Neil has done makes it a lot easier going forward, you just take out the split pin and pull on the washer, Simples
