    leaky carb

Have just fitted a new head gasket and refitted carbs etc.. Went to start andnoticed fuel leaking from high up from the carb body. I have checked the o ring on the bottom plug and that's fine (replaced the other one just the other week!). I think it may be a sticking float - could this be the case? If it is what can be done top fix it and if not what else might it be?

I would really appreciate the guidance and wisdom of the forum members on this one.

    With thanks

ps When fitting back together I noticed a brown wire loosefrom the coil. The car has an electronic ignition fitted - one terminal has two same colour wires fitted the otherterminal alreadyhas one wired fittedalready - I wondered if the wayward wire is a hang over from the old points system or if it has some relevance? There ius a spark at the plugs....

Take the breather pipes off the carbs and see if you have fuel or fuel vapour present when the ignition is on,you may also hear the fuel pump click now and again. If so it's probably the float chamber valves (easy to change and set heights) got mine in kits from LD's I also had a leak on one of my carbs on the cold start device (what the choke cable is attached to) it took 3 attempts to cure it and I had to end using a small amount of Hylomar on the gasket.

Thanks for help Ian. The fuel pump does just keep ticking and fuel pours out the carb! Is it a simple case of removing float chamber case and replacing the valves and then resetting?

I ordered 2 kits and a a pedestal o ring from LD, took carbs off and just removed the float chambers in turn and changed the valves, if you look in the manual it gives you the measurements and where to measure from, it's only about an hours work.

Needle Valve Less Washer. Stamped with the correct 175.
Current stock is genuine Land Rover which has a gauze filter on the input side.

I bought the kits, AAU4548, the o ring 153034 and the fibre washer wf509, all you need is in the kits for the carbs and I have had no problems.
