Oil level increasing …. Starting to swear a lot !!

Hi All
checked dipstick and found the oil level has doubled !!
Runs well , slight vibration
I will drop out a litre and refill over wend .
, but as I’m away working, this is on my mind

any ideas on what could cause this ?
It’s a relatively new recon engine , less than 500 miles but not really ran
1/2 mile spins twice a week

I picked it up 2 months a go …

Have you checked the coolant level? If the engine has recently been rebuilt, have the heads been torqued down? You say you picked it up a couple of months ago. Was it a private sale, or from a dealer?

As DJT says, torque the heads. Also a couple of short runs per week is not doing it any good. It needs a few longer runs and a bit of load on the engine to bed the piston rings in. Short runs won't even get the engine warm and you will end up with glazed bores.

That cap looks a bit gunky for a recon engine, or any engine. Probably as a result of condensation and the short runs not getting the engine and the oil hot.
