    EFI Up & Running

Some may have seen my Facebook post on this but for others I have reposted here.

I fitted the Stromberg EFI adapters fro m Chris Spain together with the Speeduino ECU, wide band O2 sensor, TPS, ATS and CLT sensors, etc. The car is running very well. Photos taken last Sunday at the Triumph Day at Guildford WA.

Good effort to get it up and running. Where have you mounted the ecu any pictures?. I take it you are using tuner studios.

Similar to my install, not using Strom bodies though.

I use summat called Retroject from Webcon, a throttle body that contains - Two injectors, TPS, Fuel Press Reg, Idle Stepper motor. & Air temp sens.
Using MS2Extra ECU. Been running nearly 12 months now.
Also recently changed to wasted spark ignition as well, so got rid of the dizzy too.

I really like your solution. Keeping the car as standard as possible, but having well controlled mixture and no evaporation issues.

Did you put in a return line or put the high pressure pump in the boot? Where did you get the ECU from? There seem to be lots of Speeduino ECU implementations out there.

Very interested to hear how you get on. Does affect performance or economy? Removing the piston/damper should certainly allow more flow.

            Mike,

Yes this solution uses existing parts, ie, Strombergs as throttle bodies, throttle linkages and the original air box. It keeps the original look and costs down as well. I have a high pressure pump in the boot and a swirl pot using the existing low pressure pump as a feed to the swirl pot. I ran two new 8mm nylon fuel lines, supply & return, cheap to do. The system is running at 3 bar. I purchased an assembled Speeduino UA4C from www.diy-EFI.co.uk.

The car feels great, very responsive, better than before and I had well tuned carbs with up-rated needles and springs, tubular exhausts. No I am not going to put the car on a dyno for those who think I should. Fuel consumption - I have never ever measured but you would expect that running at optimum AFRs through the full load & rpm range would result in less fuel being burned.

            Cheers
            Craig

              Glenn,

Thanks! The ECU is at the back of the parcel tray. It is not very big. Yes I am using Tuner Studio with the auto tuning add on paid for.

Hughesy while I applaud your efforts .. how did you compare with oe or indeed Mr Flyingfarmer's results?

Probably the easiest route to fuel injection on a Stag is to fit one of the new generation of EFI products which consist of a throttle body with a built in controller or ECU. Holley sells the Sniper, which in 2 barrel form is the 2300, whereas Fitech sell a similar 2BBL one called the 39001. These feature self tuning as you

doesn't need to be scientific, just realistic.

Stags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony

I’ve had Strombergs, Holley and unnamed carb, I always wanted EFI but considered that throttle body conversions only offered drivability advantages but with most of the fitting hassle of proper multipoint injection. I had no means of fabricating manifolds, by a strange set of circumstances I found a multipoint EFI system which was designed and made by Tony Hart and the late Keith Barnicle. Apparently only 6 sets were made. It is controlled by MS2 extra and EDIS ignition system. Performance is very good as it gets rid of the restrictive inlet manifold and it has been totally reliable for over 10 years.

I have one of the 6 John, going into blue stag when I get it in the garage - I’ve seen your car go so I’m looking forward to fitting it. Well done Hughesy, be interesting to see any dyno figures.
Paul - 3 projects, 1 breaker - garage built and housing 2 white Stags. One runs, one doesn't

As mentioned above I am not going to put the car on a dyno. The car is running much better and that is all that matters to me. The cost of a before and after dyno sessions would be more than the conversion itself. The system is self tuning so no great advantage in putting it on a dyno for that purpose. I am a mechanical engineer and this is just something I wanted to do! The originality look is also important to me.

Rare as rocking horse ****, I know of a set on Keith Barnicle’s car, wonder what happened to the others. The Rover plenum has the advantage of a properly designed throttle linkage with provision of kickdown cable.

Do you have a wide band O2 sensor fitted? Otherwise how do you tune it to your specific engine? It is a pity there was so few of your set up made.

Yes. Fitted one on Stagdad’s advice when he also had an unnamed carb fitted, the only short term way of finding out how weak it was running.

If it's tuned anything like properly (fuel map), you shouldn't really need an O2 sensor.
Mine just does very fine adjustments, max authority is 10% with a step size of 0.5%.
