Cant upload photos with the HEIC extension

Sorry to post here, but is there any plan to support this file format for uploading photos? My Android phone now saves photos in this format.

When I have had this problem, I have done a save as on the image and then you can save it as a JPeg or similar

On the laptop (and probably on phones) you can use a free HEIC converter. I use iMazing HEIC Converter

Thanks for the workaround. Would anyone know if there is a plan to support this format?

That's probably in the hands of the Vbulletin forum software people, unless they support it there is little anyone can do. Must admit I had never come across it until you mentioned it. Can't you change the settings on your phone to save as a jpeg as a default - I suspect you can either under general settings or under the menu options on the camera app itself.

              Hi Sujit,

The .heic is a format based on the open standard H.265, it saves space in comparison with .jpg. If you happen to be Apple-based the Photos or Preview apps ( for example ) can export directly from .heic to . jpeg / .jpg.

Out of curiosity I looked at the web page https://www.vbulletin.com of the company which provides the software for our forum. The online manual suggests that the vBuletin administrators can use the Attachment Manager to specify the formats that users may use. I can't tell whether options are limited to a closed list or it is possible to define any format. But there are also advantages in limiting the allowable formats to a smallish number that are universally acceptable and widely used - that decision is a matter of policy.

                Hi Philip,
My photos from my phone get saved on the Google cloud. Google cloud is using this format. I typically attach photos this way. Anyway, I'll play around with it some more.
                Regards, Sujit

This is a strange one. I use an iPhone or iPad to take pictures. This saves in HEIC format. If uploading to this forum using my iPhone or iPad, the photos transfer without problem. But if I airdrop the photo to my iMac and try to upload to the forum, I get an error message informing me I cannot upload in HEIC format.

Interesting Dave - I don't have an iPad, but on my iPhone I can go to Settings > Camera > Formats and change from the default "High Efficiency", which is .heif /.hevc to "Most Compaible" .jpeg / .jpg. It may be that your iPhone and iPad are set to "Most Compatible", which could explain why you are able to upload with no problem from these devices? On my iMac the Photos app seems to work in .heif / hevc only but you can export pictures to .jpeg / .jpg from within the app before uploading.

I don't have access to an Android phone, Sujit, but I wonder whether you have a similar option on your phone to change the default camera format? Other than that, as it stands, it looks like you'll need to convert formats before upload using a stand alone app or online converter, there seem to be plentay available.

Sorry, Phil, I didn't get back to you on this. Both my iPad and iPhone are set to High Efficiency - the Apple default setting.
