More on wiper cable

Based on my other thread to try and save my cable and not buy a new one. If I pull the wiper cable out of the metal tube will I be able to slide it back in without removing the wheel boxes or getting behind the dash? I'm concerned it may get stuck at the boxes as I push it back in.

Sujit.
It is a simple job. Just remove the two wiper arms and pull the rack right out. When you have repaired it, just shove it back in again and replace the arms. It won't get stuck.

As he says. Actually, if something did go wrong, I found that the wiper boxes are surprisingly accessible after removing a few bits of the dashboard area. When you reassemble, run the motor without wipers until it parks before putting the wiper arms back on - just in case!

If your wheel boxes are not well greased, you may have trouble getting the wiper cable back in,

Don't forget to lube it before you shove it back in

To be honest, my limited experience of 40 year old boxes is that they are pretty much dried up and any lubricant which was in there is now a sticky brown goo and probably a detriment to a smooth operation.

I decided not to remove the cable. The cable and boxes are still greased well. With my park issue, I Bent the end down a bit. Applied epoxy glue on the floating end and then got my Dremal tool to clean off the excess glue so that the bit at the end can slide in the track.
