I've seen two types of top covers used on the Stag. The left one in the photo came off a Sprint. but I have seen this type used on a Stag as well. The one on the right came from a Stag with non OD. Did Triumph change covers or did they use both types?

I have seen lots of different types, I would suspect that the type of cover was related to the date of production.
The number of holes for inhibitor switches would vary for end use. It would be most unlike Triumph to produce more than one casting type at a time.

I have one of the type on the left. Was supposedly a 'New Unused' that came with a J type mainshaft.
Took the top off and indeed it looked new and had never had oil in it, was still covered in wax.
I've got the left hand cover as well on a 1976 Stag. The plate and the gasket that's under the plate isn't shown in any of the parts catalogues so I wonder if it was quite a late change?
