    Stag engine block & crank?

Well, not a great start to the New Year, despite “grand plans”?

Stagatha was planned for an engine/gearbox refresh, as well as two new door skins and a general tidy up, hopefully before the ESM in Crieff later this year.

So, she went to the garage on Tuesday, and the engine and gearbox has been removed, then today the engine has started to be stripped down and she’s destined for the body shop on Monday, then later back for her power train to be re-united.

Then the bad news starts! The engine already has +0.040 pistons and +0.060 crank bearings, and this, plus strange thrust washers, appear to mean I need a new/replacement block and crank! Suitable for refurb/rebuild ideally so that Stagatha can re-start from a clean sheet and a 100% known quantity.

I’m circulating the information throughout Worcester area SOC, but anyone out there has got what I need, or know someone who can help, please let me know asap?

Tony White has quite a few engines - contact him on the thread '25 years of hoarding' on the For Sale forum. His number is in there too.

Try Paul Mclaughlin at Stag Classics, Alton Hampshire. paul@stagclassics.co.uk He sorted me a crankshaft and a pair of cylinder heads. He's not a retailer/distributor as such but he usually has a number of engines and parts out back, plus he is a top bloke.

Engine blocks can be re-sleeved, although getting a re-boreable replacement should be a much cheaper option. Used engines are still plentiful - I saw an engine for sale recently for £300 on Marketplace I think. It was seized but possibly could be rebored/rebuilt. Worth a punt at that price. I was tempted to have it as a spare but it would only clutter up my workshop.

I have a spare engine block and crank that was in my Stag before I replaced it with a new one. IIRC it was bored to +20 and the crank was the same but I can check. It was smoking a bit and one of the cylinders has a score mark. It's my 2nd spare so could really do with it gone. Let me know if it's of any interest as I don't want much for it.

Saw it too. Imagine it’s a punt…. Few hours before you know if it’s scrap or not. Cheap though.

Nick A’ s offer is sounding good… a few miles away.

Tony White will also sort you out.

Then there’s what I have & potentially peter harris’s spares & or the Walsall engine parts too.

            Decisions !

                5 potential ways forward!

Heard about a broken Tesla model x, recently donated (yep FOC) to a garage to resurrect… dead batteries… only source of a used replacement was £48,000. It’s a scrapper.

I too have a couple of spare cylinder blocks and cranks etc. I have one on ebay right now, hopefully priced reasonably . I think its standard bore, but maybe worth a rebore and pistons, i need to clear space in my garage.

Thanks everybody for the prompts, offers and advice. I think that I am sorted via local SOC members, and hopefully Stagatha will live again. Heart transplant and a few surgical procedures - but, she’ll be back!
