    Engine lift chain length

I plan to buy some length of chain for an engine hoist. I lave a leveling bar which the chains will attach too. I'll most likely buy some chains on one and would like to know what length chains folks would recommend? I think 4 or 5 ft would be long enough to clear the cam covers. Some folks have said in USA to get grade 80 chain and others have said get a chain which is about 3x stronger than what you plan to lift. I plan to buy a chain which can at least lift the engine and gearbox together. Any wisdom from the list?

If you are removing engine and box then you need to lift it pretty high IIRC so I would keep the length fairly short or you could run out of lift.

Personally, I took the heads off in situ, then dropped the engine & gearbox out underneath using only a trolley jack. I plan to put it back in the same way but using a standard engine hoist to make it easier.
