Installing weather strip on Outer Waist Moulding - Stainless Steel - 813040

I'm sorting out issues with my passengers side door which include changing the quarter light, fixing the door lock, replacing a few clips and replacing the rubber weather strip. I wasn't planning on removing the door glass and frame but did. It's just a shell now.
I looked through the ROM, but couldn't find the answer . I'm changing the rubber on this moulding strip. I'm assuming based on the clips which holds it to the door skin, I need to reinstall this strip back on the door before putting the frame back on. The reason why I say this is because at the very front where the quarter light goes, there is a clip which would be very difficult to install when the frame in on the door. On removing it, there was no clip holding it to the door. So I'm assuming the PO ran into a similar issue. The other clips can be attached with the frame one and glass down.

Here's the waist moulding as on RImmers website.

    What’s the question sujitroy?
    Generally:-
Yes, agree the clip fitting is a bit awkward for the front two.
I fit 7 by the way.
it can be done with the frame fitted & glass up.
there is a special tool available from paddocks.
it won’t work on the front 2 with the frame in…. You just have to reach up.
trim the lip off for the quarter light portion.

I made my own tools , the paint brush handle with a slot cut in it, reinforced with blue tape is for the front weather strip clips by the quarter light , use old clips for this area it easier . The other is for the ones you can get from the top. Whole job is a right pain , Done mine twice both sides due to poor quality quarter light rubbers and strips.

Be very careful where you buy your inner and outer weather strip from, lots of crap out there!

you might need a skin graph after

        Weather strips

P1090772.jpg The one on the right has no fur and did not come close to touching the glass

P1090775.jpg The one on the right folded in when the window went down, but did not come back, it was the more expensive one!

Ps if you have the frame out you may as well change the channel felt but get the right one!

Replying on my phone as I just woke up in raining California. As Julian says that strip can be fitted back after the installing the frame and glass. I got my strip from James Paddock. The felt strip is healthy. Probably lack of use and mild weather. Just a clip broken.

The one on the left is similar to the one I have.

I got my door back together. I thought I'd put the steel strip on before putting on the frame and door glass back on, but you can't. The bottom of the frame wont fit in the opening with the strip back on. The problem is with the thin brace at the bottom of the frame. It is riveted to the side of the frame and the heads of the rivets stick out a bit making it a tight fit. I fortunately, didn't have too much difficulty in putting the original clips on the steel strip after even the one right near the quarter light.

I kinda thought that you can’t fit weatherstripping before the frame..
Mine also initially folded when the window was dropped but some talc and leaving the window up just a little with the strip in the correct orientation for a week or so “trained” it and I have never had any more issues.

I remember the front two clips, but of a bear but managed it
