sorry to say :-
From experience Only original / rechromed ones are likely to fit.
On a fastidious restoration, no refinishing is worth attempting before trial fitting of exterior trim & subsequent adjustments are undertaken.
If that ship has sailed, Either get original parts rechromed…. Or fit the new parts using pu sealer & tape to hold as tight as possible till the pu has set.

Absolutely as Julian says. On the rear ones I've gotten into the habit of nudging the ends tightly back on when I'm meandering past the car in the garage. Probably doesn't help, but it's now an auto-reflex (or OCD - take your choice)

I think there’s a few other owners with that habit.
(or in that boat, to keep the maritime metaphors going )
Yes been there done that
best if you draw the shape onto paper then get your workmate out and you can just bend it a small amount say 2mm from your line on the paper just to help it bend round take your time but it can be done BUT not to much ! if you bend the middle it helps the ends more.Good luck!!
