    Carburettor Alignment

Morning All, Tried to tune my carbs after finding she was struggling to run when on choke and after warm up . The problem was that the piston was sticking. I removed the top of the carb and found that the diaphragm was well past its shelf life. After replacing said offending item she was fine. Which leads me to this conundrum, Why are the carbs off line to each other making it impossible to remove the top of the opposite carb with out removing the accelerator linkage ? Does any one know if there is a modification for this please or any suggestions ?

Hi Mike can you post a picture of your carbs as I do not have this problem when removing the top of my carbs. A picture may explain if you have a different setup.

hi Mike, I am not right in front of my stag engine at the moment but I seem to recall that the left hand dashbot top needs to be twisted very slightly as you lift it in order for it to clear the throttle mechanism.

Also without being there I seem to remember that a bit of twisting is required, could the plate holding the accelerator mechanism be slightly bent towards the carbs? It wouldn’t take much

Ok, curiosity got the better of me. Just gone out to the garage and found you have to first pull the distributor vacuum pipe off the pedestal union, remove the four carb cover screws, lift and it give it a slight twist and it lifts off. see pics.

If yours is still fouling the accelerator linkage then it may be bent as Terry suggests.

The offset is due to packaging , so that the linkages can be aligned.

Iirc , the right hand dashpot comes off ok… then the left hand.
Its only 4 (often butchered) screws.

Reach in underneath & keep the piston up…. Then the whole lot can be removed.

If this doesn’t make sense or is too tricky…. Leave well alone.
Apologies if the warning sounds arrogant or rude….
But the strombergs need a bit more than meccano level to fix.
