ZF4 Kickdown

Afternoon

I am setting up my kickdown cable on my ZF4.

She drops down to 3rd from top up to about 55mph, after that no drop down, but will drop if shifted to 3rd.

I am happy with the box but is this correct, or should she drop down whatever the speed?

After 50/ 55 mph I believe there isn’t usually any kickdown on a zf 4 speed.
But you can drop it down manually with selector.

Drop down - do you mean when pedal is floored (in other words kickdown) or drop one gear when accelerating and revs drop too far?

No, by drop down I meant manually selecting a lower ratio….. when the road speed is too high for kick down.

We had a club run out today, so in the engineering interests of the Forum and indulgent fun, I had a little right-foot play. Mine kicks down at 50, 60 & 70. I would have carried on in similar upwards increments, but the roads around Tintagel are a bit narrow & twisty, and some onlookers were looking uneasy!

Nope. Mine goes into lockup at 45 on a light throttle, so kick down is out of lockup and down into 3rd. It will actually drop down to 2nd at 50 if I tread hard enough, but I tend to err towards mechanical sympathy, and ease back.
