Most stags it seems were originally fitted with 185 / 80 / 14 R or HR rated tyres.
Some had 175 / 80 / R or HR tyres.
Speed rating for stag tyres was originally supposed to be up to 117mph….. IIRC.
Tyre testing reports suggest the 175 were better handling….. Back in the day.
It’s increasingly tricky to get nice tyres on a stag.
Best to have maybe the MXV-P Michelin 185 14 available from longstone at a premium price. Budget £ 1500 for 5 fitted (yikes)
Many owners fit Firestone 195 / 70 / 14 as a quality & far less costly alternative. Imho best for handling & braking…. Price was around £85 each.
wisdom has it that 175 or 185 80 series tyres still work out best for handling….. maybe not as good as 195 for braking though.
Avoid the many offerings that are listed as 185 / 80 / 14 ( 8 ply ) those are commercial vehicle tyres and are too stiff on a car.
A few years ago Nankang seemed to be a popular budget tyre for stags, as they offered a 185 / 80 / 14.
Dont know if they still do. Price was around £60 each.

If your car is a 77 or 76 model chances are it came on 17580HR14 tyres. Earlier models were fitted with 18580Hr14. Note that most tyre brands did not include the 80 on the markings as all basic radial tyres were 80 series or to be exact 82% aspect ratio. This number is the wall height as a percentage of the width. If you have the original owner's manual it will have the tyre size listed. If your car came with 175HR14 then you can either stick with that size or go up two sizes on the width but change to 70 series giving 19570HR14 as mentioned above. Khumo do this size and they are HR rated too. If your car came on 185HR14 original then strictly speaking you should stay with that size on Stag alloys. This is all about maintaining overall diameter and rolling radius. I know that some owners have made the change up from 185HR14 by fitting 15 inch wheels but as you have some nice 14 inch Stag alloys then the above is my advice. Many years a tyreman.
I looked into this in the past, I believe the circumference of 175/80R14 is 97.56% of that for 185/80R14. So maybe it isn't going to have too much impact on accuracy as the speedo calibration may not be much better than this anyway? Page 05-41 of the April 1978 Parts Catalogue shows that the speedo changed from 218808 to TKC2176 at LD 35940, but I don't know whether this change co-incided with a change in factory-fitted tyre size or whether the change embodied a re-calibration.

I looked earlier, That change is when the trip reset went to a button on the dial, but it’s still a 1000 tpm Speedo
