    Hi all -

Just starting work on fitting a new headlining to my hardtop, and don't know what these two "prongs" are there for. They seem to hook underneath the first rail in the headlining, but I can't see what they achieve - I guess I must be missing the point?

Thanks in advance for any advice - Dave.

Okay, they aren’t so easy….what happens is that you put the headlining sticks through the channels in the fabric, fit the sticks into the roof, then, hook the front one with those two prongs, pull the headlining backwards until it is taut, then glue the rear edge. Once the glue has set, you can stretch the fabric sideways and glue it, then finally do the front, taking care not to stretch too hard at this point. Result - a beautifully fitted headlining!

Damn, wish I'd known that when I fitted my headlining! There have been numerous threads on fitting the headlining but I never saw these two chappies mentioned - thought they must have had something to do with the insulation pads - holding them in place during assembly! I guess what I did had a similar effect - securing the headlining at the front with bulldog clips before pulling and glueing. I found the worst fitting place is the side curvature where the headlining goes from the horizontal roof area to the window frame area.
      The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

Yea, that makes sense - I had been looking at it from the perspective of fixing at the front first, and couldn't see what the function of the two prongs would be. Different story if fixing at the back first as they will hold the front stick in place while the headlining is pulled backwards. Thanks Richard.
