    Oil pump test facility anyone?

    Hi all,
I've rebuilt my oil pump as best as I can having read about all the various pitfalls and recommendations on the forum (well most of them I think!!). Having said that, i'd still like it tested prior to installation - rather than blow up the overhauled engine! So I was wondering does anyone have the facility and would be willing to test it for me please? Failing that advise me where I could send it for proper testing and setting up if required.
Thanks in advance for any assistance
    Cheers

Not sure it’s possible to test the oil pump easy enough to test in the engine by removing spark plugs and spinning the engine over whilst watching the oil pressure gauge though…

You can also check the oil pump while fitted to the engine by removing the distributor and driving the hex shaft with an electric drill. I've done to check the pressure before starting the engine.

I always check oil pressure on a rebuild, before any fire up attempt.

          disconnect fuel pump.

pack oil pump with Vaseline. During assembly!

spin pump till oil pressure is up. Either with plugs out on starter, or with the drill method ( anticlockwise)

can take a while to prime.

have noticed drill getting a hard time before now!

I only have the pressure gauge on for initial monitoring… otherwise it’s a worry gauge/ distraction

Can't disagree with any of the comments above. & easy enough to do with dizzy out.
It is essential to pre-lubricate the pump before fitting though, don't fit it dry or it will never generate any pressure.

When I rebuilt my engine this time last year I filled the oil pump with engine oil and fitted it whilst the engine was still on the stand. Easy to rotate the engine so that the pump can be fitted in the vertical position so not to spill any oil. But then, I was fitting the engine with the gearbox already in place and not lifting both units almost vertically like they show in the ROM. Otherwise, if the distributor is removed, the pump can be filled with oil through the distributor hole. Then circulate the oil throughout the engine using the drill in reverse method
