    Hi Les

No idea why this hasn't been answered already Original triumph stag says

"the wheels are finished in gloss black except for the outer rims and the raised sections of the spokes and hub section"

However 1976 / 77 cars were satin finish

        Hi Guys,
I just cleaned a set of rims and I am contemplating refurb or replace. Take a look at this picture. It appears that the non-black surface has clear coat paint on it..! The clear paint has crackled!
Has anyone come across this? And should that make it easier to strip down to beautiful aluminum, which has been protected all these years?

Moisture will have got under the "laquer" and corroded the surface, will require lotsa elbow grease to get anything like a shine on those.

Just done some minilte replicas that had a diamond cut edge, moisture had got under the laquer and made them look tatty.
Abrasive cleaning while spinning them was required, then etch prime / spray silver then laquer to match the rest of the finish. Masking was a pain & very time consuming.
Look fine now, I should have bought the non diamond cut in the first place.

I glass beaded mine, that laquer is tough! but the fine bead I used made them look great - eventually! then hand brush painted the black with a POR engine enamel, the glass bead had left a nice key and I went over the lot with 2pack clearcoat. I didnt want to be polishing these things

Thanks, Terry! I saw your painting posts. I have some ideas about what I could do.
