    Heritage Certificate

I was reading the Heritage certificate that came with my car. Mentioned in the items included, amongst other things like a heater, is 'overdrive' and an 'automatic gearbox'.

How can this be, I thought overdrive only came on manual gearboxes, did they fit it on autos too?

The car now sports a Rover V8 and LT77 5 speed manual gear box. So I wonder if it was ever an auto. Though I know conversion either way is easily possible.

If the com number has BW or A, then it was an auto, if it had a O on the end it was overdrive, think some early cars had no overdrive , can't remember the letter for that or even if there was one, the O sometimes get recorded as a ZERO 0

I'll have another look at the weekend. Mostly surprised that it states; Overdrive and an Auto box. Think something might be wrong there.

I think the heritage certificate is only as good as the information that came from British Leyland records.

A bit of a gamble as to whether the records were completed on a Friday afternoon or seconds before the "everybody out" whistle went off

In the 70s that whistle (real or metaphorical) went off quite a lot

Sometimes they copy incorrectly, they initially had my engine number incorrect by one digit, I contacted them as I had the block and they rechecked, agreed and reissued the certificate, probably a scribbled Friday record.

Having regularly looked at the Records at Gaydon for various research reasons both Stags and Dolly Sprints, it is obvious that the TRIUMPH records are visibly in very poor state having been scanned from the old style microfiche to be on computer database system, to be fair when ordering a Heritage Certificate you are at the mercy of the quality of your particular record and the person trying to compile it for you. When i recently did some further research on my Stag i found additional information on 2 separate records (by listing my chassis number in the database) that was not recorded on the Heritage certificate, these were quite significant finds and to there credit British Motor Heritage produced an official letter for me (on my request) stating my findings although they did charge a small admin fee even though i discovered the information myself.
In your case i would ask for clarification as if this is actually what's it states on the record or whether the record is unclear to the researcher so both were listed. Again they will probably charge you an admin fee.

Thanks I'll look into it. Makes sense that things get a little confused fifty or so years down the line.
