    Magnetic drain plug for differential

    Hello fellow Stagers
I have searched but can not see a previous thread on this issue. Hope I am not doubling up.
Does anyone know or have experience of fitting a magnetic drain plug to a Stag differential. I am about to swap out my LD referenced 3.7 / 1 stag diff’ on my Automatic Stag, for an MG referenced diff’ (3.45 / 1 from 2.5 PI MK 2). I am assuming the drain plugs are the same specification and thread on both these.
Isthere a magnetic drain plug available that safely fits these and if so where can I get one and what is the size /thread.
thanks in advance for any help on this.
    best regards
    Robo

I wonder why they never had a drain plug at the bottom of the diff so you could always change the oil as you do on the gearbox or sump

Perhaps they thought they would never last long enough to warrant an oil change

Mine has had a drain plug since it was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago. It was a magnetic plug but I changed it for a different one to try and stop it leaking. I use synthetic LSD oil in my differential, it is said to be better that the usual :-)

Thought all triumph diffs were self emptying?
Only ever recall having to fill them up.

Same here, you could easily suck the old diff oil out using something like a pela 6000. Rather than a magnetic plug using a magnet in the finger of a plastic glove will find anything metal in the oil as it is removed. My usual practice

mole42 is the oil you use GL4 spec to protect the shims. Sounds interesting and will most probably smell better than the fishy stink of EP
