    Using TR water pump seal?

    Hi guys,
its been a while but i'm back on the forum and refurbishing yet another motor.

Apologies if this is a boring topic by now.

i've rebuilt quite a few water pumps by now using refurb kits and as previously remarked by others, i agree the impeller seal in the kits is too strong in terms of spring strength. In the past i've had a stock of weaker strength seals that I've used but have none left and had no idea of their origin.

Peter from LD suggests full spring compression pressure resistance should not exceed 9kg. The kit seal i have is approx 12kg and turning the drive gear by hand when the pump is built up is way too difficult IMHO. Peter suggested TR seals are more suitable in terms of spring strength and it seems part number 148322 might do the job.

TR Revington supply them. They are expensive but i don't mind that.

i wondered if anyone had tried them in a Stag. I cant find any evidence of this on the forum.

    thanks in advance

Yes, use the pioneer Weston seal from Revington.
Should give an assembly torque to turn of about 1Nm

some seals on offer give 2 or 3 times that or even worse, which is a recipe for very short gear life.
