    Remanufactured water pumps

Have had cause to disassemble a couple of remanufactured (all new) Waterpumps.

    I found 2 things:-

    1. the impellor to shaft is an interference fit (no spline)… bolt not transmitting any torque which is similar to original splined design.

    2. on the second pump (appeared to be low hours / miles) the gear teeth appeared to have ‘cough’ bedding in wear.
possibly tip to root contact (!) the first pump had only run for a tiny amount of time so hardly any witness marks at all.

Recall a post hear saying they’d had early life failure on such a pump.

my 2p is I’m not happy to rebuild these for reuse, due to points observed.

anyone else with 1st hand experience of these re-manufactured aka new pumps?

A fellow USA Stag owner, knew otherwise, but fitted a new pump supplied by the bothers. (He was in a hurry to get his car ready for a show) Not just engine damage, but diff damage too. Something locked up. I can't recall if he bought a newly made one or an old stock one.

I have struggled with this cheap **** chinesium now for a few years. The impellor seems to expand when used dry or with water and then binds against the surround ring. This puts the motor under increased load so that it eventually (usually 56 seconds after your sphincter rests) the heat burns through the .0001 micro insulation on the field windings and it shorts out and fails. If you are lucky it will not take safety critical electric circuits with it.

I tried all sorts, and all costs. they all pack up with boring regularity.

However new style bottles such as ....

which accept a far cheaper pump when you buy cheap or don't

Calling SOCTFL on the stagphone.... washer pumps please

Stags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony

              Funny situation

whilst we are off topic, have had 3 batches of trico style WASHER pump impellors made. Only the first lot worked.
2nd were too hard, 3rd were too soft.

But this post is about remanufactured WATER pumps, gin, beer & scotch. Ok?

In your neck of the woods today.
Fullers beer is rank. Dark star hophead bearable; neck oil fine.

A few belligerent cyclists on the river walk… pretty place though. Needed a private helicopter to get in.
                          had to park & walk.
