Speedo elbow connector

Hi there team,

My speedo needle jumps around a bit and I'm convinced I'm leaking gearbox oil from the speedo elbow connector.

Can this be tightened up? Might it have worked a bit loose? I can't really figure it out just by looking at it...

Can someone explain how it is attached and if replacing it is needed/ easy to do?

You know there's rubber o rings inside the angle drive, that's probably why your losing oil

Didn’t I read someone put a copper washed in the angle to stop a leak?

I've not figured out a way to dismantle an angle drive. The drive wheel from the gearbox has a couple of seals which are not too difficult to replace. I'm not sure about the angle drive.

There’s a copper washer which goes in the angle drive to gearbox mount - if you don’t have that washer ( get if from LD Parts) you will leak oil and also because the drive will be too tight in the mounting it will make the speedo waggle around - how do I know…
My box has leaked oil for years and it was after contacting Peter at LD he said try fitting a the washer if I didn’t have one - Instant fix, no longer leaks at all and the speedo is steady.

The o rings are easy to replace too and worth doing while you are at it - just jack the car up from the rear so the gearbox oil stays in the box rather than leaking out of the drive casing.

Thanks so much for this Mike, I will investigate as to whether it has a washer. With regards to the specific washer needed and the correct o rings, can you assist me in finding them on something like Rimmers, or James Paddock? The only o rings I can find say for an auto box, mine is manual....
