Oily exhaust

My Stag is making a mess of my garage floor with what seems to be oil coming out of the exhaust. I have done a compression test and all cylinders showing about 125 -130 psi. One spark plug hole seems to have a dodgy initial thread so didn't like the compression tester screw fixing and coincidentally that spark plug had oil on its threads. All spark plugs were sooty which presumably indicates too rich a mixture. I have a fuel regulator set at ,2,. Could this just be down to lack of use or more serious. What should I look at next? Grateful for advice.

Are you sure it is oil coming out of the exhaust and not water, which would be quite normal for a start from cold? It would be black and messy. Spark plugs will look black if the engine has run on the choke for any length of time.

With all 8 cylinders showing decent compression figures, that would seem to eliminate anything really serious with pistons/bores. To get any serious amount of oil into the combustion chambers from the head/valves would need quite remarkable damage in that area - doubt the engine would run well at all in that case.

It doesn’t happen often but I find myself agreeing with Wilf. I had a car that spewed sooty water every time it started up which I put down to condensation sitting in the exhaust. My current car doesn’t do it but my current garage is a lot drier.
