Indicator cancel cam - NO dimples ?

    Hi Gents,
Sorry to be going over old ground again but I'm trying to fit an indicator cancelling cam and having removed the column covers I can't see any dimples in the shaft as mentioned in numerous other posts?
I have attached a few pictures so you can see what I'm faced with. It looks to me as though the brass coloured bush has moved up the shaft and has covered where the dimples should be?
If I refit the steering wheel and rock it the bush moves with the shaft which again I'm not sure is right?
Not sure if there are any differences between early and late Stags but mine is a 1977
Any thoughts or advice would be great !
    Thanks, Peter.

Hi Peter have you tried removing that bush ? as I believe you may be right that the dimples are underneath it.
I do not have one on the column of my car. But instead I have one of these which I understand are retro fitted to eliminate movement in the column.

Check out Triumph STAG ** STEERING COLUMN TOP CLAMP ** UPRATED MODIFIED on eBay!

Perhaps that bush is a modification of that clamp.

I have not seen that bush on any of my Stags or my spare parts.
The dimple as mentioned would be covered by the Bush.

That brass bush should not be there. It's been added to stop play in the top bearing.

I did something similar but left the indicator canceller in place, so it became part of the spacer.

I think that Bush was fitted to remove the play in the column. I think the steering wheel when on the car pushes the bush down.

Guys thanks for all your input. Sadly it seems you have only confirmed what I feared! My steering column has been bodged up!
As it stands the bush is stuck tight on the inner shaft so I can't remove it to see if the dimples are there as we suspect.
I did put the wheel back in place to see if it did push the bush down as suggested by Sujit. However there is quite a gap between the bush and wheel boss (see picture).
It looks like I'm buying a column overhaul kit and trying to get back to original setup. Not sure how much of a job that is? The kit from paddocks includes the uprated top clamp mentioned by Alan.
On the other hand I might put it all back together and drive her in the sun! I'll just have to depend on the wife to remind me to cancel the indicator.
Thanks again for all your time and help. Peter.

you could try cutting it off using a Dremel with a cutting disc.

or perhaps some gentle heat may expand it and then it might pull off.
