    BW35 inhibitor

    Hello,

Sorry for bombarding you all with three questions in one day, but I have a slight problem with the inhibitor on my Stag.

I can start the engine only, if the gear lever is in an extremely forward position. If it is "P" position, but just a few mm to the rear, I cannot start the engine.

What can I do to adjust resp. alter this?

    Kind regards, Dieter.

Firstly, is the lever actually in the gate position? The plate with the arrow cut-out can get a little close at it's front edge so make sure it's not binding up before you have fully engaged Park. After that the linkage is adjustable as you can see below....extend it a little too make sure the lever on the box is fully home. Also, make sure the actual switch hasn't worked it's way loose in the casing.
If all that fails I'd say the switch contacts are a little worn...new switch.

      Hello Adie,

Thank you for your hints. I will check those points.

The inhibitor itself obviously cannot be adjusted. It is either working or broken, correct?

Fortunately I have got a replacement already - just in case...

      Kind regards, Dieter.

The switch screws in so it could be not reaching if it's come unscrewed in principal Dieter but the wiring would probably stop it from just vibrating out.

When I put my new inhibitor in last year with the instructions from the Haynes, it was still slightly out. With it in reverse, I rotated it till the lights come on then then slightly tweaked it till it worked in Park, Drive etc, it only took about 1/4 turn

There are adjustable switches with a locknut that need setting upand self adjusting switches where the pip pushes up into a socket when operated for the first time.

You should be able to access the switch from inside the car through a panel in the side of the tunnel.

Wouldguess that your problem is linkage adjustment like Adie suggests.
