    Stag Battery?

    Hi

I’m struggling to find the correct battery for my Stag. I have been to ATS and other suppliers who don’t even acknowledge my registration number! Can someone please tell me which size and make of battery is best please?

    many thanks

    Hello Terry,

I went to Euro Car Parts; I fitted a Bosch S4 024 to mine, which has the terminals ‘swapped’ so that the positive terminal & cable are well away from the power steering pump. Make sure you get a flat top battery, as those with a raised top might not fit.

I fitted a stop start battery from “Shield”. The model number is as shewn in the photo. I wanted a deep discharge battery, as the fan often comes on after the engine has been running. So far it performed well during our week in Normandy and Brittany where we had daily temperatures of 26/27 C. My concern is not being able to start an automatic Stag if the battery decides there’s insufficient juice left.

Don't bother entering reg no. Instead search on battery type number. Usually 069 or 072 for a Stag. Check the dimenensions on the data sheet and also that the terminals are the correct way rounnd.......compare with the one already in your car.

Tayna are very good, competitive on price and next day delivery. I would go for Bosch S4 or a Varta, but that's my choice.

When I researched this a while back I found advice including dimensions on Peter's LDPart website, I took a screen shot at the time (October 2020) .. i don't think the dimensions have changed since then

The problem I had was fitting the retaining bar. My car came with a battery but no bar to hold it down. I had to pick the bar from a Halfords generic kit and the two hooks from a pucker Stag kit, then drill a new hole in the inner wing to take the hook on that side, running it inside the engine bay side (not the wheel side). However it was also an opportunity to de-rust the battery tray.

I also had to remove the power steering pump bracket from the engine block and swing the pump out of the way to get the battery in and out.

But real engineers start by trying to solve the problem themselves, and only RTFM when the designers have been really obtuse.

If you go for a Bosch battery and happen to have a Costco account, check their prices. I had to get a new battery for my MGF and found theirs was the cheapest based on the recommended battery from MG forum. As long as they have it in stock on the shelf, you can get to see it to check dimensions etc - And its guaranteed.
