    Dragstrut polybushes not tight

Last week I discovered that the polybushes from the dragstrut were no longer centered in the cups.
After refitting the bush it was possible to move the dished washer slightly, it was not a tight fit, the bushes were not compressed.

When I removed the dragstrut I found that the gap between the polybushes was about 6mm when properly aligned.
The thickness of the body, the welded cup included, is 4mm however.
This way there will be no pressure on the polybushes.

Is this as it should be : the bushes not compressed by the washers with the nyloc nut thightened at the right torque.
Or do the polybushes have the wrong thickness?
Maybe somebody encountered this problem too and has a solution.

Have a look in the technical section - it looks like those two washers aren't the bona fide ones - above all the 134557 one which should be pretty thick.
    The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

I used Superflex bushes on both my Stags within tha last few years and didn't notice anything unusual. if not mistaken there is a shoulder on it so u can't tighten the nut beyond a certain point to compress the bushes further. What brand of bushes are you using.

I also used Superflex bushes, I fitted them a few years ago.
You are correct about the shoulder, you can't tighten them beyond a certain point.

You could be right, these are the actual thicknesses of the washers.

Compared with washers form some supliers they seem to be the right thickness.
But I can be wrong, I can't find any information about the actual thickness.

Attached is a pic of a spare drag strut I have, been lying around for years, washers look to be originals, rubbers not sure, but they are rubber not poly. Gap between rubbers is 2mm - well slightly less as they "grip" a bit of 2mm thick metal. Overall gap between washers with nut tight against the end of the thread is 47.5mm. Welded washer is 5mm thick and the loose washer is 4mm thick.

                  Peter.
It looks to me that these bushes have not been made correctly. Replacements should be dimensionally the same as the original rubber ones, and not that much harder. There have been instances in the past where over-hard ones have been substituted which have resulted in them causing the mounting point in the chassis to fracture from metal fatigue. Chose Poly replacements carefully.

There are a couple of places where I don't bother with polyurethane replacements, rear shock absorbers and drag strut.

Have seen damper threaded ends damaged and also worry about the known issue with the drop arm end of the drag link fracturing due to age maybe but also the increased load because of upgraded bushes.

Stags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony

Replacement by propper rubber bushes shoud be the solution then.
                          I will order them.

The overall gap between the washers measured here is 48mm, so the bushes must be the problem.

I will replace the poly bushes by propper rubber bushes and will let you know the result.
