    Washer pump impeller

Hi all, does anybody know which way the pump spins? Clock or anticlockwise?

    Cheers M

It depends which way round you wire it!. +ve and -ve are marked by the terminals to get it rotating correctly. It will only pump one way.

Thanks Mike for the reply. Im aware that it will run either way depeneding on how its wired. I need to fit a new impellor, and as it will be curved as you fit it, I want to make sure it's curved in the right direction. If it's wired correctly as per the markings on the pump, what is the default rotation? Clock or anticlockwise? Thanks again. M

at first I though Mike's response was unhelpful but having thought how I might answer it I must concur.

To put it more simply wire the pump how you would normally and note the direction of the shaft. then fit the impellor so it will work.

I did a quick forum search and found a post from 8 years ago put up by current stag owning friend but ex member Ian https://www.socforum.com/forum/forum...ld-washer-pump

He has helpfully shown how to replace the base of the pump but also added a image where you can see the direction he has fitted the impellor.

Need to fit a new impellor? So do I! Where did you get hold of one?

Thanks each dot the replies. I got this one from SOC spares a while back although they don't last long. They are a bit too hard compared to the originals, so wear down quickly. My current one shredded so blocked output. M

              Mark.
I found the same but they seemed ok at the time of fitting. They were professionally 3d printed in was was supposed to be a suitable material, but it seems it wasn't. Another way will have to be found.
Rubber moulded from a tool was the original way, but that will require investment.
              It is being evaluated!
              Mike.

                  We got new impellors made.
Batch 1 were good and worked.
Batch 2 were too hard and didn’t work
Batch3 were too soft and didn’t work
Enquires are still out for batch next.

where did you get a new impeller from mark?

There was a time when nos military (24v) trico pumps were available for about £8…. Those days are gone.

I have a pile of pumps that need new impellers, but just need some more that work.

imho the direction doesn’t matter…. The impellor can find it’s own way …. If built up with soap and tested with hot water.

but polarity does matter , of course.

Hi Julian, the last one I have was from SOC spares. As mentioned previously it is a bit too hard and will break soon. By default if the wired by the markings on the pump, it runs anticlockwise. M

Just an update. Soaked the impeller in fairy liquid for 24hrs and fitted to turn anticlockwise, carefully shaping the fins in an anticlockwise direction and another little drop of fairy liquid on the impeller before assembly and left for 24hrs. Works perfectly.

                        brilliant news!

I did find running them in with hot soapy water gave them a good start

making more is on the list…. Just not that high up.

I did spot someone offering a trico rebuild kit with an impellor…. Sent a message…. No reply & then the item got delisted.

To be honest it would be great if someone could lean in on this…. Been going on for ages.

It will only pay in terms of satisfaction though! Not financially!

Just an update......This is after 1 weeks use, now not working. This may be of some help when fitting a new impeller. I have an original pump, and if wired correctly it runs clockwise. The replacement pump runs anticlockwise. As you have to slightly curve the fins to fit the impeller it might be safer to check which way your impeller turns as it will be destroyed if curved in the wrong direction. Hopefully some replacements will be made soon that are a bit more hard wearing and last longer. M

Any more talk about making new impellers? Got a 3D printer at home but don’t know the spec. Being an MOT failure, it would be good to get spare ones going

                              I got 3 lots done…

1st were spot on successful. All went via Soc spares / ld part.

                              2nd lot were too hard.

                              3rd lot were too soft.

next lot were quoted but £££.

                              i have some here .

i can share the Stl file. Be great if you can experiment to get a good hardness / softness. IMG_4881.jpg

if you can buy a 24volt Land Rover pump you can harvest the impellor…. ££

                              message me or call.

special materials are now available for variable shore materials. ( search varioshore £30 a roll)

got lucky with tpu on the first batch.

some use bicarbonate of soda / temperature; some use ultraviolet to adjust hardness.

the ones in the photo are uv hardening. Have been kept dark, but were too soft.

May be too hard due to not being completely kept dark ??

a new gasket for the housing is required ideally too.

i did a 3D file for that too.

the tension / compression on the gasket is critical, otherwise it leaks
