I rebuilt this rack about 3 years back. I even made a YouTube on it video. It's leaking again. It uses the earlier Adwest controller. At the time, while rebuilding it, I had issues with the control valve and a seal on top of the unit. The valve shaft has a sharp edge on it and when putting it together, the shaft easily cuts into the seal. With a later scrap control valve, the shaft has a chamfer in the same area so the manufacturer realized they had an issue. I had the rack out within 2 hours which includes removing the left had down exhaust pipe. My car is a LHD Stag and its near impossible to extract the rack with the exhaust on. I had one rack in and out at least 3 or 4 times. I think I have the job down to an art. I think, 3 years later, I found the issue with that one. Fingers crossed as it’s going in the car.
I found the leak and I think like the other later control valve, it has a torsion bar in it with an O ring at either end. This rack is leaking at one end.
I do have a scrap RHD unit, which I plan to try and disassemble. I assuming the screw is for some adjustment, maybe to center the rack as there is plug in the control valve body with a plug in it.
Since this the earlier control valve, has anyone taken it completely apart and reassembled it?
