Hi all, I am placing an order with Rimmers, and need to get some front strut shims as on dissasembly there were none fitted and I have no doubt they might be needed when it comes to setting up the car once rebuilt. They come on 0.010 or 0.004 thicknesses. How may of each would give me enough to cover what I may need.

It's pretty impossible to say - there's any number of different combinations of spider and strut and their various machining tolerances. I've assembled many a Triumph front suspension and couldn't say how many shims is enough. ISTR when I last did mine I ordered about half-a-dozen of each, I don't remember if I've got any left!Richard

I think I measured the distance between top and bottom bolts and worked out how much the angle would change with a 10 thou shim in place using an online angle calculator..
VERY ballpark but I got it in spec first try.. I dont have that distance but e.g 2 inches between bolts gives around 1/4 degree.
Given a=0.01 and b=2,
c = 2.00002
∠α = 0.286° = 0°17'11" = 0.005 radTerry Hunt, Wilmington Delaware
