Re Fitting Stroms after Stag Weber

    The guy with the RR results was called BobT if I recall, and he posted the graph on the forum I think.

    Wasn't there also a member on here some years ago, Kevin that fitted a Weber and got a very healthy amount of power/torque from his Stag?

    But what does all that prove? If anyone wants to do a proper back to back comparison of the Weber with a set of Strombergs, why not just do it if that's your thing. Or just read all the Testimonials here Testimonials | Stagweber


    Even though the advertising is minimal (just a small listing in the Stag Mag) the stagweber Weber carb conversion is still popular and continues to sell well after all these years mainly by user recommendation despite those same few who continue to whinge or criticise on this forum. Look at the bigger picture.

    If your Strombergs are OK or easy to fix with a cheap rebuild kit then by all means keep them and enjoy. But if you are having serious concerns and need to pay someone to fix them, at least you have a choice of a guaranteed brand new alternative.

      In my experience rolling road comparisons are meaningless unless tested on same machine. They also use various formulas to convert the measured wheel horsepower to give estimate of power at flywheel, the formulas vary depending of different losses in the transmission. Many tuners will only quote wheel horse power as it’s more accurate and it what gets you down the road. They’re great for before and after comparisons.
      Back in 2010 a number of us put our cars on the rollers at National Day, mine gave 128 bhp when fitted with an unmentionable aftermarket carb, the only other similarly equipped car was <100. A few years later after rejetting it, I got 170bhp on another rolling road. It was clear to me that this 40bhp improvement was down to differences in rolling road and the back calculation for the ZF box.. I did not mention this to the supplier as I didn’t want it to be used as marketing wank.
      I know that if I took my car to half a dozen rolling road sessions on the same day, I would get half a dozen wildly different results.

        Good point well made John. But that would, by your own words, make any rolling road results worthless so pointless for poeple to keep asking for them. At the end of the day people are free to do to and spend what they want on their cars. If they are happy then who are we to say they are not or shouldn't be. Me I 'll stick with Strombergs they seem to work ok and I have no desire to go near a rolling road. You were clearly not satisfied with Strombergs, hence why you tried aftermarket carbs and then settled on your Efi. As I recall that was quite a few years back. The various fuelling options will have evolved since then. It is interesting to note you run neither Strombergs OR Webers, yet you still persist in joining in the "healthy" debate about how good one carb is and how you disbelieve the performance of another.

        As Wilf says give it a rest.

        It would be nice if you could actually contribute something useful to the forum for a change.

          What a charming reply, full of contradictions and assumptions. To enlighten you, I was never dissatisfied with the Strombergs but was offered a Holley as I believed I would get more performance, this started my alternative fuelling journey, causing me a lot of wasted time and money, as others have also found. You are right that I no longer run Strombergs or any alternative carb (you mentioned the name, not me) but I have experience of them but by your logic I should not contribute. Had I not fitted proper multipoint EFI, I would have refitted the Strombergs as I believe they offer the best compromise of any carb. I note that a number of others have reverted back.

          I will treat your final comment with the contempt it deserves, I thought better of you than that.

            After a few months after removing Stag Weber and running with original Stormberg's car seems to be going well. Most important no oil spillage.

This pipe was too short anyway so I replicated my existing setup but with the new hose and clips. Minimum joins seemed the best policy.

                Imho strombergs can still work well.
                Beware that our pump fuel has changed since the 1970’s though and has way a lower boiling point thesedays.
