When I first joins the SOC I found a constant smell of petrol in my garage. It was suggested to me on the forum the smell is Stag perfume. It turned to be the rubber blocking piece on the fuel tank breather. It turned to be the rubber blocking piece on the fuel tank breather.
i suspect though like others on this forum that my fuel tank will need attention over the winter lay up.

Oh ok…. each to their own.Originally posted by Chris01573 View Post
Hi Julian, I just purchased some nylon pipe from Stevson Motors they told me off for suggesting i fit the banjos like this, they insisted that they are pressed in cold in order to grip properly. So i got them to send me the pipe with the banjos pre-fitted.
Worked for me and no leaks.

Once tried restarting a rebuilt engine.Originally posted by richardthestag View PostMk1 stag had a single length of nylon* pipe, however the tight radius at the base of the engine bulkhead was replaced with a short length of rubber fuel hose on most mk2 stags that I have seen. Often missed when replacing all fuel lines with new. also on the oe setup this fuel hose section was not clamped to the nylon, it was just a push fit. not really ideal so I clamp them using double ear hose clips.

Using very gentle heat on brand new nylon pipe you can create reasonable tight bends and do away with hidden and inaccessible joins under the car.

Tell tale for any issues in the boot area is that the interior of the car stinks of fuel, especially after filling up. If you are not getting this then I would concentrate efforts on engine bay and carbs
 Struggled to run well.

It was the rubber fuel pipe leaking…. Underneath at that join after the boot.

40 year old pipe clips rotten & rubber perished….. more of a gush than a leak!

It was a later car with a steel front to rear pipe….not the best inside probably. Last edited by jbuckl; 25 July 2023, 23:23. Last edited by jbuckl; 25 July 2023, 23:23.
