    Window regulator fitting. Help!

Hi all ... just sorted quarterlight out and following the ROM trying to put the regulator back in. Pretty sure I've followed on the steps/instructions etc. BUT no matter what I do I cannot get the regulator bolt holes to align as required. It appears that arm from the regulator lifting the window needs to go slightly higher but its hitting a stop beforehand hand.

    Any clues Guys... cheers

Power up the motor and move the arm up or down a bit.

The power can be ‘robbed’ from the puddle lamp wires for this.
There are 2 secrets to staying on top :- 1. Don't give everything away.
        2.

that is a good idea , and with no load on the regulator the fuse should be safe

From my experience taking a door card off, the wires from the puddle light disconnect from the wrong end of the connectors and expose the live wire ends. Any time I work on the Stag, I disconnect the battery. I have had my fair share of burnt wires

If a puddle light bullet touches an earth with the pin switch closed circuit, the fuse should blow.

Just a thought... doesnt the thing have 2 different length bolts and if put in the wrong place they impede it working.

I think that’s a fix for a different problem Malc, the original poster can’t actually get the regulator lined up with the frame so doesn’t know if the window goes up and down properly. I’ve seen this about different length bolts before and I have to say the 2 I’ve taken out haven’t had this characteristic

The parts book specifies 4-off HU704P setscrews ( 0.25" UNF length 0.5" ) and 4-off WL207 lock washers ( 0.25" ), so this suggests the setscrews are all the same length assuming the lockwashers are also installed.

Yes, my parts book specifies the same, but my late 1972 build car has two longer and two shorter screws on each door.....as the Americans would say "go figure!"

Looks like the parts book wasn't maintained with changes in the build state (again)

Or someone had been there earlier and used what set screws they could find?

                            That is entirely possible!
