Generally speaking, you need to find longer ones.
The clips are poor too but often cannot be pushed in fully if the cups & I think they are, are too short.

Recently got longer cups from Bresco and some Citroen 2cv panel clips, which really grip better.

i sympathise with owners who spend over Ł100 on specialist suppliers clips that don’t work and use self tappers out of exasperation.

have not found the v.w. Alternative any good either.

The chaps helping me with my project car also restore classic Mustangs - the Ford door panel clips they use reliably solve the door card problem once and for all but fit directly in the hole, i.e. without the plastic retainers, so the down side is that water can get through the hole.

imho these 2 items are worth buying …. The rest cost similar or more & pop out too easily / don’t retain well enough.

Thank you so much for that info. I went straight to each Bresco site and they seem to be both for the cups. The clips ( Citroen) on eBay only have a few left. I’ve emailed them to see if they have more. Do Bresco have the clips? I don’t know what to search for please.

Hard to tell from the photo but as they look so short I would say they're similar to the factory cups that sit on the dash where the speaker grille cover slots in: 625535
