Replacement battery

Morning all,

I'm having all sorts of fun locating the correct battery for the Stag. Having done a bit of research it has been suggested that the following will fit - 069, 089, 071 & 072.

However, I have been told that due to the different recharge cycles, fitting the incorrect battery could be a disaster.

Does anyone have the definitive answer to this riddle. None of the suppliers I have rung have the Stag even listed.

Also, when fitting this, I know I have to move the oil pump - do I remove the 2 bolts that hold it in place and tension the belt, or is there another way?

From memory I think it is the 072 that is best. More importantly check the measurements. Space is tight and different suppliers batteries are slightly different in size. Also there is the orientation of the terminals to consider and the shape of the top edge where the clamp fits.

The power steering pump has to be completely removed. First remove the washer bottle, then remove the poer steering pump (do not disconnect the hoses) and lay it where the washer bottle normally resides. Take note of how the battery clamp is fitted as it only goes one way.

I have the 072 fitted which is the heavy duty version of the 071. Dave's right about the measurements, the first 072 I fitted had lugs on the side that I had to trim off to get it to fit. The replacement this year fitted fine.

I also know two owners who have 069 fitted without any problems.

I've ordered an 072 - it should be here today and I will fit it over the weekend. I will update this thread if there are any fitting issues etc just for eveyones info.

Battery cost £69, which is probably what I expected.
