1973 Stag Auto - Help I have a problem starting at times.

Starts and runs well from cold never cuts out when running - park it for 5 minutes and sometimes it will not go - fuel guage says empty (but tank is full) filter empty and fuel pump not ticking. Any ideas where to start looking? Went over a pothole being towed back and it all started working again!!

Hi.

Sounds like your fuel pump pionts are sticking.

You can clean the pionts or get an electronic pump.

Check the inertia switch,a jolt can disturb it,(usually knocks it off but well worth checking).
If the car dies again, join the wires together going to the switch, it will prove its faulty if it starts.

fuel guage can be the sender float full of petrol, see my link about fixing.

is your car yellow as these seems to ba an olny yellow car postings.

When checking the points check the terminals to the pump. I had a similar fault and the connections were loose and corroded.

The cars a sort of purple_same as me when it does,nt start.Took it for a run and into workshop can,t find anything wrong with it ,will have to see what happens next thanks for ideas i,ll print them off and take with me.

Try playing with the ignition fuse or indeed check the connection at all the fuses,that may work
