My own car does 500miles per pint, a consumption I think acceptable for an engine of its age and mileage. Amy better than that and you are doing well!Paul - 3 projects, 1 breaker - garage built and housing 2 white Stags. One runs, one doesn't

Before I stripped my engine last year it was doing around 1000 mpp. Since giving the bores a glaze-busting hone and rebuilding with new rings it has used about 1/2 pint in 6,000 miles. The inside rims of the tail pipes have remained clean, whereas before they were sooty.Dave

I have a 160K mile Stag that is still on its original pistons with no rebore - just new rings at 80K. The oil consumption did start rising at about 140K miles going up to about 1 litre per 1K miles or more at the end. This turned out to be all down to oil blowing out of the breather, perhaps due to gas leakage past the pistons. The cure was to put a plate over the camshaft to stop oil being flicked up behind the breather plate. The car now requires no top ups between changes (3K miles). My plugs don't foul anymore and the car gives good economy. It has transformed the car. I can't believe mine is the only Stag with this issue. Put a catch can on the breather and see what you get.
